SHILLONG, June 8: The Assembly Secretariat has decided to incorporate traditional and cultural aesthetics in the new Assembly building being constructed at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township.
Speaking to media persons after a meeting of the High-Powered Committee (HPC) on the construction of the new Assembly building, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said the committee reviewed the progress of the construction work in the first phase and also made proposals for the second phase of the project.
Under the second phase, staff quarters, MLA hostels, health centres and schools will be constructed. The Assembly Secretariat will submit the proposal to the Union government through the DoNER Ministry.
During the meeting, a presentation was also made on the security system to be installed in the Assembly complex.
It was also informed that the debris from the collapsed dome has been mostly cleared.
