Group seeks compensation for affected EJH families

JOWAI, July 8: The Jaintia Students’ Movement (JSM), Eastern Region, East Jaintia Hills, has urged the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department to compensate the households from the district that have been affected by the lumpy skin disease as well as African swine fever.
In an appeal to the department, the JSM said that it is imperative for the government to also provide preventive measures such as medicines and vaccinations amid the outbreak of the diseases, so that the spread of the same can be checked.
Asking the department to provide a helpline number so as to facilitate communication with the affected households, the JSM lamented that the diseases have taken a toll on the villagers who eke out a living by rearing cattle and pigs.
It may be mentioned that as per reports, the villages of Pamrakmai, Pamrapaithlu, Wapung Shnong, Sohkymphor, Byrwai, Tongkaluh,Suchen, lapmala, Byndihati, Lumshnong, et al, have been affected by the lumpy skin disease.
