Shillong, June 14: Gujarat’s Porbandar faced the brunt of heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, resulting in traffic disruptions and the uprooting of numerous trees.

This situation unfolded following a weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for several states and Union Territories, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, Lakshadweep, among others.

To tackle the adverse weather conditions, fishing activities in Gujarat have been halted until June 16. Ports have been closed, and ships are secured due to the rough sea and inclement weather associated with an approaching cyclone.

On June 14, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall across most areas, with isolated places in districts like Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagarh, and Morbi in Saurashtra and Kutch likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

As the situation progresses, the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase, with heavy to very heavy rainfall anticipated in a few locations and extremely heavy downpours likely at isolated places in Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Jamnagar. Areas within Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Junagarh districts of Gujarat may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in specific areas.

On June 15, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in the remaining districts of Saurashtra and the north Gujarat region, further emphasizing the need for caution and preparedness.
