KV Happy Valley wins dist-level round of RBI’s All India Quiz
SHILLONG, June 14: The district-level Quiz round for students of Classes 8 to 10 of East Khasi Hills was conducted by the Reserve Bank of India, Shillong, at the Conference Hall of Hotel Polo Towers on Wednesday. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Happy Valley, East Khasi Hills, emerged as the winner of the Quiz and will be representing East Khasi Hills in the state-level round of the Quiz. The Quiz was held as part of the RBI’s All India Quiz on Financial Literacy 2023. The seven teams of two students each representing various government schools, who won at the block level rounds, participated in the Quiz. The Quiz was conducted with a motive to give further impetus to financial literacy efforts and fulfil the vision of creating a financially aware and empowered India. It was held in five rounds comprising state-related questions, general economy and finance, RBI-related questions, other regulator and financial institutions and lastly the G20-related questions. Prior to this, the Reserve Bank, Shillong, successfully concluded the district-level rounds of the Quiz for other 11 districts of the state. The winners, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up were awarded with prize money worth Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 5,000 respectively, while the other teams were felicitated with participation certificates. The winners from the respective districts will compete at the state and zonal-level rounds and the exercise will culminate with a national-level Quiz. The students and teachers from various schools of East Khasi Hills highly appreciated the RBI’s endeavour in conducting the Quiz.

MLCU celebrates Meghalayan Age
Shillong, June 14: To commemorate the fifth year of the Meghalayan Age, the faculty of Arts and Culture, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an event on the theme ‘The Meghalayan Age: Our Unique Geodiversity, Biodiversity and Cultural Assets’. The event was held on Wednesday in the university campus. The Faculty of Arts and Culture of MLCU include the Department of Music, School of Language and Literary Studies and the Department of Environment and Traditional Ecosystem. The Department of Tourism and Travel Management also has collaborated in the event. The Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University Dr Glenn C Kharkongor also gave a brief presentation on the origins of Meghalayan Age and why this new geological age was named after Meghalaya. Dr Kharkongor explained how Mawmluh cave, one of the longest and deepest caves in Meghalaya, showed conditions that were suitable for preserving chemical signs of the transition of ages. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the various competitions that were held prior in the week leading to the Meghalayan Age Day. The competitions included smartphone photography competition, digital photography competition and handmade poster competition and were open to schools and colleges. The winners declared for the Handmade Poster competition are – first Liza Rani Basumatary of Lady Keane College, second Noor Bano of the same college and third Rodinal Lyngdoh of Shon Roy Basan Secondary School. For the smartphone photography competition, first prized was won by Albert Banlam, second prize by Raymond Wellis War, MLCU and the third prize went to Amandame Lywait, MLCU. For the digital poster competition, the first prize was won by Fennyzia Marbaniang, and second prize went to Chanchal Loro, both beingstudents from MLCU.

‘Janbhagidari’ events in Ri-Bhoi
NONGPOH, June 14: District Mission Coordinator’s Office, along with SSA-SEMAM and the District School Education Officer of Ri-Bhoi, Nongpoh, organised a two-day district-level Janbhagidari events for school students which concluded on Tuesday. The event is part of the nationwide Janbhagidari programme aimed to raise awareness on G20, NEP, and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) in schools from June 1st to 15th, 2023. Various activities were conducted across different schools in the district, including storytelling, wall painting, display of teaching learning materials, art and crafts, and exhibition. On Tuesday, the District Library Auditorium Hall, students and teachers from 12 schools in Umling, Umsning, Jirang, and Bhoirymbong blocks participated in the events. The chief guest Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, Arpit Upadhyaya, distributed prizes to the winners of different competitions.
