NONGPOH, June 16: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has raised concern over the recent transfer of seven employees from the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, and has sought clarification from Dean of CAU, Kyrdemkulai, Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria, on the matter.
The transfer took place last week, prompting the union to flag the issue.
In response to media inquiries, Prof. Thakuria said the transfer of the seven employees from Manipur was due to the prevailing situation there.
Clarifying that these employees were on a three-month contract and would be returning to Imphal at the end of their tenure, the Dean assured that the positions designated for local candidates would remain reserved exclusively for them.
He asserted that the transferred staff members from Imphal would not occupy the positions meant for local employees.
Meanwhile, education secretary of KSU North Khasi Hills unit, Banjop Maring, also asked if the transferred employees from Imphal would be accompanied by their families here. To this, the Dean replied in negative. Maring also raised the issue of eight vacant positions advertised in 2019, the interview process for which was yet to be conducted.
He said there were apprehensions that these positions, which meant for local candidates, might be given to the seven employees transferred from Manipur.
However, the Dean assured the KSU that the employees from Manipur were on a three-month contract and that interviews would be conducted for the vacant positions.
The Dean also informed that the delay in conducting interviews was attributed to COVID-19 pandemic.
