Rotary honours vocational achievers

SHILLONG, June 16: It was a mixed bag of young achievers and well-known newspaper columnists who formed this year’s Vocational Award winners of Rotary Club of Shillong.
The award winners are: Ridahunlang Gatphoh, (the artefacts designer for the niche market), Dr Bhagtohram Mawroh (academician and newspaper columnist), Genevieve Khongjee (noted Rabindra sangeet exponent), Dr Albert Thyrniang ( Social service and commentator on contemporary issues), Eugeneson Lyngdoh (national soccer player turned football administrator), Dasumarlin Majaw (entrepreneur who converted state coffee into a profitable business across the country) and Simi Khongtiang ( who has used celluloid to project Jaintia folklore and earn recognition ).
The Awards were handed over by secretary, State Human Rights Commission, Peter Hanneman and member of the Commission, B Giri.
Speaking on the occasion, Hanneman congratulated the award winners and expressed hope that their success stories would inspire others to emulate.
Earlier, Club president Diya Rathore, while explaining the idea behind these awards, said that Rotary lays special emphasis on ethical responsibility and dignity of labour.
Others who spoke on the occasion were B.Giri, Dr Santa Ram Joshi, who conducted the presentation ceremony, and Osmand Nongbri, who offered vote of thanks.
The awards carried a citation and some gift items sponsored by Meghalaya Apex Bank.
