MAWKYRWAT, June 18: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), South West Khasi Hills, has urged the state government to take immediate steps in repairing the road from Mawsynram to Thieddieng.
The appeal comes days after a road mishap took place, leaving six people dead.
The KSU said that both the dilapidated road condition as well as the inclement weather led to the tragic incident where a vehicle, which was on the way from Mawsynram to Thieddieng village in East Khasi Hills, fell into a gorge on June 13.
“Therefore, the union urges upon the state government through the PWD (Roads) and the district administration to take immediate steps in repairing the road from Mawsynram to Thieddieng to ensure safety of the general public and to prevent such tragic incident from occurring in the near future,” the KSU said.
The union also offered condolences to the bereaved families of the mishap victims.
