NPP’s Pyniaid set to take over as CEM

SHILLONG, June 19: NPP MDC from Sohryngkham, Pyniaid Sing Syiem is all set to be elected as the new chief executive member (CEM) of the KHADC unopposed.
The election is scheduled at 11 am on Tuesday.
Syiem will head the Khasi Hills Democratic Front (KHDF), the new alliance of NPP and Congress.
NPP MDC from Mawlai, Teiborlang Pathaw has been named as secretary of the alliance.
The KHDF, formed on Monday after some high drama on the first day of the Council’s summer session, has the support of 18 MDCs (12 from NPP and six from Congress) while the outgoing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has the support of 12 MDCs (10 from UDP, one from HSPDP, and 1 independent).
Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination for the CEM’s election, Syiem said the UDP has led the executive committee for four years and it is time for the NPP to take the lead for remaining tenure of the current House.
Asserting that the NPP could have easily toppled the Titosstarwell Chyne-led EC one year back since they had the numbers, Syiem said, “We have been patient and continues to support the UDP-led EC. The NPP is not hungry for power and I want to make it clear that there is nothing personal against Chyne,” he said.
