No let up on trade licence violation, says new CEM

SHILLONG, June 20: Newly-elected KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem has warned that his new Executive Committee (EC) will take stringent action against non-tribal traders who are doing business without obtaining trade licences from the Council.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Syiem said the Council will not be soft against any non-tribal trader doing business illegally. He said the enforcement wing of the Council will keep checking trade licences.
“Don’t expect that you will be able to do business without the trade licence. Anyone caught without it will be penalised,” he warned.
Syiem said the Council will scrutinize the applications of non-tribal traders for trade licence through proper channels. He said the final decision to issue or not to issue a trade licence lies with the EC of the Council.
The previous EC, led by former CEM Titosstarwell Chyne, had intensified the checking of the licences, especially at Iewduh market, in the past few months.
Chyne had carried out field inspections along with other Executive Members of the EC and personnel of the Council’s enforcement wing.
He had categorically stated that non-tribals doing business within the Council’s jurisdiction should obtain trade licence.
