SHILLONG, June 28: After the UDP asked the NPP, which has formed the new Executive Committee (EC) in the KHADC by toppling the UDP-led EC, to reveal its stand to the public on the crucial Phase-II of the interstate boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam, the Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pynshngain N Syiem, said that the council will make efforts to take into confidence all the stakeholders including Himas, Raids, land owners and the villagers residing in the border villages before arriving at a conclusion insofar as the boundary talks are concerned.
“We will carry the views of everyone in the regional committee constituted by the government which we are an integral part of. Our stand as far the second phase of the boundary talks is to carry everyone along,” the Deputy CEM told reporters while replying to a query of the opposition UDP on the present EC’s stand in regard with boundary talks.
He said that the role of the council is very important since it can help in the collection of the land documents from the Himas, Raids, Dorbar Shnongs and land owners to assist the state government in the boundary talks.
“We can help the state government to build our case stronger by obtaining a powerful paper work which will be presented during the second phase of the boundary talks,” the deputy CEM said.
He added that the Council will visit the border villages, especially areas where dispute is to be resolved in the second phase of talks to understand the ground reality.
According to Syiem, collecting documents while sitting inside the Council will be the wrong approach. “We will try to reach out to the villagers,” Syiem said.
Meanwhile, he explained that the decision to reconstitute the boundary committee was to reach out to the different stakeholders and also give suggestions to the EC on the matter.
Replying to a query, the deputy CEM said that the KHADC fully endorses the stand of the state government on seeking re-transfer of the villages under Block-I and Block-II.
