Man held for ‘damaging’ ATM machines

SHILLONG, June 29: A 29-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly damaging a series of ATM machines across the city with an aim to steal cash.
According to a statement here, cases pertaining to vandalisation of ATM machines were reported in various police stations on Wednesday evening.
It was after this, a team from Rynjah Police Station apprehended the aforementioned man for his alleged involvement in the above cases.
“Preliminary interrogation has revealed that he committed the acts of crime in the ATMs at Madanrting, Laitumkhrah, Rynjah and Laban. The clothes, bag and umbrella which were used while committing the crime were seized from his house. The total damage is worth over Rs 10 lakhs,” the police said.
It may be mentioned that the accused has been arrested and forwarded to the court.
“Investigation will ascertain whether there are any other accomplices and modus operandi in opening ATMs,” police said.
