SHILLONG, June 30: The new office-bearers of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the UDP will be elected during the general council meeting, which is slated for July 29.
Informing this here on Friday, UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh, said the term of the members of the present CEC should have expired in 2022.
“We had to postpone it in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and also due the Assembly elections,” Mawthoh said.
As far as the election of the office-bearers, he said that they have constituted a nomination committee for the elections to the office-bearers of the CEC.
Mawthoh informed that the nomination committee will comprise all district presidents and secretaries of the party across the state besides the presidents and secretaries of the frontal wings, the youth wing, the women’s wing and a farmers’ wing.
The committee will also have six active members of the party as members, including Renikton L Tongkhar, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, Nujorki Sungoh and two members from Garo Hills, Mawthoh added.
Informing that the president and secretary of the party will be ex officio members of this nomination committee, Mawthoh said the nomination committee will propose the names of the leaders who will be elected to the various posts.
Informing that those names will be placed before the general council of the party, he said, “It is an indirect election. It depends on the general council to endorse or reject the names proposed by the nomination committee.”
