Shillong, July 2: The Union Ministry of Finance announced on Saturday that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue collected in Jammu and Kashmir in June has shown significant growth, registering a remarkable 58% increase compared to the same month in the previous financial year.
This growth percentage is more than three times the national average and stands as the highest among medium and large jurisdictions in the country.
In June 2023, the gross GST revenue collected amounted to ₹588.68 crore, a substantial rise from ₹371.83 crore collected in June 2022.
It is noteworthy that India’s gross GST revenue for June 2023 stood at ₹1,61,497 crore, marking a 12% year-on-year increase. This is the fourth instance since the introduction of GST in 2017 that monthly gross GST collection has surpassed the ₹1.60 lakh crore mark.
The statement highlighted the commendable efforts of the State Tax Officers in consistently ensuring month-on-month growth in GST revenue. Dr. Rashmi Singh, Commissioner State Taxes J&K, lauded the performance of the State Tax Officers, emphasizing their dedication and hard work.
This remarkable growth coincides with the sixth anniversary of the implementation of GST in Jammu and Kashmir. To raise awareness about GST among all stakeholders, the State Taxes Department is celebrating GST Week from July 1 to July 7 as part of its initiative.
