Shillong, July 3: The scheduled meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru, set to take place on July 13 to 14, has been postponed. According to JD(U) leader KC Tyagi, the meeting will now be rescheduled after the conclusion of the Monsoon session of Parliament.
The exact date for the rescheduled opposition meeting will be announced at a later time. The clash between the Monsoon sessions of the Bihar and Karnataka assemblies and the meeting has been cited as the reason for the postponement.
The Monsoon session of the Bihar Assembly is scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 24. Sources indicate that JD(U), led by Nitish Kumar, requested Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to postpone the meeting due to their commitments in the assembly session, as both Kharge and Tejashwi Yadav would be occupied.
The news of the meeting’s postponement comes on the heels of the split within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) following Ajit Pawar’s rebellion and alliance with the BJP-Shinde government in Maharashtra. This split may hinder efforts to forge opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Initially planned to be held in Shimla, the venue for the opposition meeting was later shifted to Bengaluru, as announced by Sharad Pawar on June 29. On Saturday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed that the Monsoon session of Parliament will commence on July 20 and continue until August 11.
