BDO illegally dissolves VECs: Complaint

Tura, July 6: A complaint has been submitted to the Commissioner and Secretary to the C&RD Department in Shillong alleging the illegal cancellation of four legally constituted VECs and three Village Monitoring Committees (VMCs) without assigning any reason, by the Block Development Officer of Demdema Block in West Garo Hills.

According to the complaint, the four VECs- the Gasbari VEC, Khetadowa VEC, Gomaijhora VEC and Nolbari VEC were constituted by the concerned BDO himself in pursuance with the Gram Sabha meeting held at the respective villages with the consent of the job card holders. However, after they started functioning, they were verbally informed without any order being issued that the VECs were cancelled.

The secretaries of the VECs and VMCs who filed the complaint have urged the official to look into the matter.
