SHILLONG, July 5: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed both the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) and the state administration to make greater effort to keep Jowai clean in view of the Behdeinkhlam festival later this week.
During a hearing, it was indicated that some system has been put in place for collection of waste in Jowai, which had made the news earlier owing to the waste management crisis in the town.
The Court hoped that the residents’ grievance of trucks not visiting certain localities or not being available at the appointed hours would have been taken care of.
“Further, in view of the Behdeinkhlam festival later this week, both the Municipality and the state administration have to make greater effort to keep Jowai clean and additional trucks may be assigned for the next week or so to ensure that the waste does not overflow on the streets or in the residences during such time,” the court said.
