SHILLONG, July 6: Amidst the ongoing debate on whether the civil areas of Shillong Cantonment Board would come under the purview of the Sixth Schedule or fall under European ward, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday said that the final outcome would depend on the rules of the Ministry of Defence.
It may be noted that move to transfer civil areas of Shillong Cantonment Board to municipal board is afoot, with the matter being in an advanced stage. The CM had even discussed the matter with Union Defence Minister recently.
It is also pertinent to mention that the Ministry of Defence has constituted a committee to propose modalities for exclusion of civil areas from the purview of the Shillong Cantonment Board.
