Former NEC librarian passes away

SHILLONG, July 6: Former librarian of the North Eastern Council (NEC) Durga Prasad Bhagwati passed away on July 4 at his Biswanath Chariali (Assam) residence.
During his stay in Shillong, Bhagwati was closely associated with Assam Club of Laban, Shillong Central Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee, Laban Namghar and many other organisations.
He is survived by his wife Malabika Bhagwati, a retired teacher of Shillong Vidyalaya, and a son.
Meanwhile, the Assam Club and Shillong Central Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee on Wednesday held a joint condolence meeting at the Cub premises.
Presided over by Sunit Phukon, several speakers in the meeting recalled Bhagwati’s contributions to the Assamese society of Shillong. The meeting observed a one-minute silence in the memory and honour of the departed soul.
