Group sends back 12 labourers over documentation

NONGPOH, July 6: A total of 12 labourers from Assam were sent back after they were found wanting of documents, from Ri-Bhoi on Thursday.
The United Hynniewtrep Movement Nongpoh Circle led by its working president Sparly Syngkli detected the labourers at Quinine, Ri-Bhoi, while they were attempting to travel to Bhoirymbong for work without proper documentation.
The individuals arrived in two private SUVs (AS01BQ3030 and AS01DU3030) to bypass the checking at the anti-infiltration check gate by. They then boarded a Sumo from Nongpoh to Bhoirymbong, and were intercepted by members of the United Hynniewtrep Movement at Quinine.  The labourers were returned by the group to the Anti Infiltration Check Gate in Byrnihat.
When requested to produce the documents, it was found that did not possess labour licences. Following the incident, Syngkli expressed concern over the slipshod inspection at the anti-infiltration check gate in Byrnihat. He said such leniency allows outsiders to enter Meghalaya for work without documentation. He called for comprehensive inspection of commercial as well as private vehicles at the check gate.
