NONGSTOIN, July 6: Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Garod LSN Dykes on Thursday apprised Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh that the district is in need of an observation home for children in conflict with law, home for children with special needs and a de-addiction rehabilitation centre for children and youths.
It may be mentioned that Lyngdoh on Thursday visited Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills.
During his visit, the Social Welfare minister attended a meeting of the department here, which saw the attendance of stakeholders including anganwadi workers, children from various shelter homes and NGOs of the district.
The DC, in his speech, lauded the efforts of the Social Welfare department and the ICDS in implementing various schemes in West Khasi Hills. He also told the gathering that the enrolment of Aadhaar had improved in the district after the department engaged the aganwadi workers.
Lyngdoh, on the other hand, appreciated the endeavour of every stakeholder working tirelessly to ensure betterment for the district.
On the achievement of Aadhaar enrolment, the minister lauded the persistent efforts of the district administration in mobilising the general public.
Lyngdoh sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders in the combined efforts of ushering peace and prosperity in the society considering the surge in the menace of drug abuse.
