SHILLONG, July 6: The KHADC will meet Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of District Council Affairs (DCA), Prestone Tynsong, on July 13 to discuss issues concerning the Council including the pending Bills.
“We will be having a meeting with the Deputy CM on July 13,” KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem told reporters here on Thursday.
According to him, five to six important Bills, which were passed by the Council, are yet to get the assent of the Governor.
One of those Bills is the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration) Bill, 2022. The Council had passed the Bill on July 8 last year but was not disposed of by the state government.
This Bill seeks to penalise non-tribals for using Khasi surnames, and codify and regulate the system of Kur (clan) of the Khasi-Jaintia tribe.
Meanwhile, the CEM said that the constitution of the expert committee to examine and study the Bills by the MDA Government has been a boon for the Council.
According to him, many of the Bills which were pending with the government got the assent of the Governor after the expert committee was constituted.
