MAWKYRWAT, July 10: Toughening its stand against the menace of drugs, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) South West Khasi Hills District has offered ‘reward’ to anyone who can provide credible information about the movement of drug peddlers in the district.
Voicing concern over the rise in cases of substance abuse, general secretary of the FKJGP SWKHD, Balse Kharbani, said that the federation has decided to setup a team to tackle and intercept drug peddlers in the district. “This team will work specifically on drug issue 24/7 and will be divided into three groups which will be working in three areas — Mawkyrwat, Photkroh-Ranikor and Nongjri area.”
“To encourage our people, especially the youths and women in this fight against drug menace, the federation has decided to reward those who provide credible information about the movement of drug peddlers in the district. We took this decision after thorough discussion, and we understood that we cannot do it alone,” Kharbani said.
