SHILLONG, July 12: There is lull on the Laitumkhrah front after last week’s drunken rowdyism. But some tricky questions remain unanswered.
The key question why pressure group members got involved in a locality brawl between two groups is being raised among police circles. The footage available in the different YouTube news channels show how the pressure group members were quarrelling with the second in-charge of Laitumkhrah police station.
In the video footage, it was also seen that a police officer who was on attach duty with the police station was seen pacifying the pressure groups leaders on the day of the incident.
The question why this particular police officer was in the police station when he was not in the night shift, is intriguing.
Nobody is prepared to take these questions openly. Some only talk in hush hush tone off the record.
An informed source wondered why the police have not questioned any of the pressure group leaders for their surprise presence at the police station and their involvement in this incident.
As per sources, the five persons arrested so far include the three youth who had blocked the road and the two non-tribal tourist taxi drivers.
Sources further said that the arrests were based on the two counter FIRs which were filed with the police.
“More people should have been arrested by now,” according to one source. Surprisingly, only five people have been arrested so far for the various criminal offences committed inside the police station.
It may be mentioned that on the night of the incident, a crowd torched two-wheeler, a police vehicle and a tourist taxi belonging the driver who is now in judicial custody.
Not only this, the youth who were present at the police station had even tried to snatch the weapon from the CRPF personnel who were on duty. In the process some jawans were assaulted. These are serious nature of crime but no action has been initiated.
