Man gets 20 yrs in jail for sexual assault of minor

NONGSTOIN, July 12: An accused was convicted by the Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Nongstoin, for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 30,000 for the offence punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
Moreover, for another offence under Section 506IPC, punishment of simple imprisonment of a year and a fine of Rs 1,000 was announced by the court. Both the served sentences are to run concurrently, it said.
Earlier, the father of the minor girl had filed an FIR on March 13, 2021, against one Dilshad Nianglang for sexually assaulting his daughter.
The case was endorsed to be investigated by WPSI Siangshai of Nongstoin Women Police Station.
