House panel to take up Nongstoin Polytechnic construction delay
NONGSTOIN, July 19: After conducting an inspection of the Nongstoin Polytechnic at Mawrusyiar village, West Khasi Hills, on Wednesday, the Estimate Committee of the Meghalaya Assembly concluded that the delay in its completion was due to the non-release of funds by the central government. It may be recalled that the polytechnic construction had started in 2017. Speaking to media persons, Chairman of the Estimate Committee and Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem, said that the committee will take up the matter to ensure that funds are sanctioned to complete the project at the earliest. Others who were present during the inspection include local MLA Gabriel Wahlang, Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Garod LSN Dykes, and other officials.
St. Mary’s School in Rangblang begins school week celebrations
SHILLONG, July 19: The school week of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Rangblang, in South West Khasi Hills was inaugurated by Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar at Rangblang Sohsyniang on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Tongkhar, who was also the chief guest of the programme, exalted the village, Rangblang Sohsyniang, for producing many missionaries who are in many parts of the country and even abroad. The competitions began in right after the inaugural function. The school week grand finale is on Friday.
BSF rescues 37 cattle in EKH
SHILLONG, July 19: Vigilant troops of BSF Meghalaya rescued 37 cattle from the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday which were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh. Acting on specific tip-off, a special ambush party of 193 Battalion BSF seized the cattle while they were being taken towards the international boundary by smugglers. The seized cattle were handed over to the police for further action.
