Shillong, July 24: In a surprising move, Twitter’s iconic blue bird logo has been replaced by a new ‘X’ logo on its web version. The change was initiated by Twitter-owner Elon Musk, who had been hinting at the transformation through a series of tweets starting from Sunday.

Elon Musk’s tweets teasing the change began with one cryptic message: “soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” Following this, the ‘X’ logo made its debut on the platform, with Musk even changing the company’s official account name to ‘X’ and adopting the new logo as its profile picture.

As reported by IANS, Musk went a step further and shared an image of Twitter’s headquarters with the new logo projected on it, declaring it as “Our headquarters tonight.”

To further solidify the transition, Musk informed users that “X.com” now directs to “twitter.com.” When users speculated on the reason for the letter ‘X,’ he playfully remarked, “Not sure what subtle clues gave it away, but I like the letter X.”

In response to a user’s inquiry about the new name for a retweet, Musk hinted at the possibility of rethinking the entire concept. He also initiated a poll asking users if he should change the default platform color to black.

Despite some resistance from users who vowed to continue calling it Twitter, Musk asserted that the name change would soon be embraced. When a user suggested that users might be called “Xers” now, the tech billionaire enigmatically responded, “We will have no name.”

Musk confirmed that once the platform adopts the new name, a tweet will be referred to as “an X.”

On the other hand, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino expressed her excitement about the transformation, stating that X represents the “future state of unlimited interactivity.” She envisions X as a hub for audio, video, messaging, payments, and banking, creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Yaccarino highlighted the numerous feature launches over the past eight months as the foundation of this transformative journey towards X.

As the rebranding unfolds, the digital world awaits to see how the transition to ‘X’ will shape the future of this influential social media platform.
