5, including 2 juveniles, held for Mahadev Khola assault

SHILLONG, July 25: Five persons, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with the Mahadev Khola incident on Monday where a woman was attacked and injured.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said as soon as the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot and after the identification of the accused through CCTV footage, three persons and two juveniles were held.
“The three accused will be produced before the court and police are likely to seek custody for five day to ascertain the facts of the matter. The two juveniles will be dealt with appropriately,” police said.
A senior police official said they are investigating all aspects to find out if the arrested persons are linked to some groups, even as he even as he maintained that nothing to that effect has been ascertained.
Police also maintained that the incident had nothing to do with any religious animosity and it was an assault resulting from robbery and trying to snatch things.
