Tura shops to open till 8 pm
TURA, July 25: After shopkeepers down their shutters following Monday night’s violence in Tura, TMB Chief Executive Officer, Rikse R Marak on Tuesday directed all shops in the town to remain open till 8 PM. The directive comes after citizens raised complaints about inconveniences being faced by them due to the shop closure. “All shop keepers of Tura Super market, Urban Marketing Hub, Chandmary market, Nakam Bazar and Tura Town area in general are hereby directed to open their shops till 8 PM,” the directive read.
Book fair at Loyola College
TURA, July 25: East Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner, RN Sangma, on Tuesday, inaugurated a book fair organised at Loyola College in collaboration with the Eastern Publishing House. The fair is expected to attract participants from 18 schools and two other colleges of Williamnagar. The book fair has over 30,000 books covering a whole gamut of subjects and disciplines including books on subjects like Humanities, Social Science and Science, Commerce along with Childrens Books, Encyclopedias for Competitive Exams, Motivational Books, Novels as well as a wide selection of Stationary. A discount of 10% is being offered to all students and the general public. WKH quiz winners feted in Mumbai
NONGSTOIN, July 25: Two students from Nongstoin College Higher Secondary Section — Banraplang Wanniang and Lapynshngainpat Kharbani — were among the 72 from across the country who were felicitated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports and Information and Broadcasting Anurag Singh Thakur at an event in Mumbai on Sunday for their success in the second edition of India’s largest quiz on Fitness and Sports — the Fit India Quiz— during its state rounds. The 72 students representing 36 schools from all over India will now compete in the national round of the Fit India Quiz 2022 that will be telecast on Star Sports and Disney Hotstar. The winning school from each State/UT received total prize money of Rs 2.5 lakh, while the team of two students from the school was awarded a total of Rs 25,000.
‘Shillong Run 10K’ on August 12
NONGSTOIN, July 25: Shillong Run 10K 2023 is being organised by the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives at Polo Parking Lot, Shillong, on August 12. The theme of the run is ‘Run with Different Abilities’. It is open to three categories: Juniors (below 15 years), Seniors (15 years and above), and Persons with Disabilities, who are exempted from registration fee, while it is Rs 300 for the junior category and Rs 400-600-700 for the senior category. Last date for registration is July 31.
