Shillong, July 26: In a significant move, the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have submitted notices for a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in the Lok Sabha, focusing on the Manipur issue. The Speaker has accepted the motion, and a date for the debate will be announced soon, India Today reported.

Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress’s deputy leader in Lok Sabha, submitted a notice to the Lok Sabha Secretary General’s office, while the BRS floor leader Nageshwar Rao submitted a separate notice to the Speaker. The BRS, led by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, is supporting the motion.

If the motion passes, the government will be required to resign, as a no-confidence motion enables the Opposition to challenge the government’s majority on the House floor. Currently, around 50 opposition members are expected to support the motion, which will be presented and discussed in the Lok Sabha.
