‘Tourism boom in SWKH soon’

MAWKYRWAT, July 26: South West Khasi Hills will witness a tourism boom making it one of the major sectors that provides employment to local youths, said for Cabinet Minister and Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton L Tongkhar, on Wednesday.
His statement came after Tongkhar inspected the Synrang Mawrin at Mawten village, 2 km from Mawkyrwat, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the district.
The Dorbar Shnong of Mawten village through the Village Employment Council (VEC) had spent about Rs.2 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to beautify and develop Synrang Mawrin.
The Synrang Mawrin will be inaugurated and open to the general public by Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on September 4, 2023.
Tongkhar told media persons that one of the objectives of the state government is to introduce positive changes and turn Mawkyrwat and South West Khasi Hills as a whole into a tourist hotspot.
