Shillong, July 27: A video showing a group of villagers beating and tying two people to a tree with power cables went viral on social media. The incident occurred in Bhagta Bhai Ka, Bathinda district, Punjab, where the power cables of a water motor in agricultural fields were stolen by thieves at night.

After discovering the theft, the farmers reported the incident to the police, but they claimed no action was taken. Frustrated with the lack of response, the villagers decided to take matters into their own hands and caught the suspected thieves red-handed with the stolen power cables.

In the viral video, the two accused men were seen pleading for mercy while a villager struck them with a stick. The villagers then handed the beaten men over to the police. Subsequently, some villagers involved in the beating were arrested by the authorities.

As per India Today Bathinda Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajay Gandhi urged people not to resort to vigilantism and take the law into their hands. He requested citizens to report any crime-related matters to the police, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken.
