Curbs on fishing and poisoning of water bodies

Jowai, July 28: An order under section 144 CrPC to curb harmful the practice and to protect local aquatic life, flora, fauna and the overall ecological balance has been issued in West Jaintia Hills, a statement from the District Magistrate said here on Friday.
The order prohibits fishing, poisoning of water bodies and use of dynamite to cause widespread/large scale destruction of aquatic life within the district.
Washing of vehicles along the riverside has also been prohibited.
The order comes into force with immediate effect until further notice.
