SHILLONG, July 28: The government is considering to launch 100 luxury vehicles by March next year to help solve the problem of tourist influx, Toursim Minister Paul Lyngdoh told reporters here on Friday.
In view on the increasing tourists entering the state and Assam vehicles adding up to traffic congestion in the city and outskirts, Lyngdoh said that he has directed officers of the concerned department to engage with their Assam counterparts and have them on board to discuss the matter in an amicable manner.
‘If the state government arbitrarily decides to stop Assam vehicles, the neighbouring state may also hit back with similar restrictions for Meghalaya vehicles in Guwahati’, the minister said.
The government expected to come up with a solution to solve the problem of traffic jam to a certain extent as around 100 luxury vehicles for tourists would be launched by March next. The government is also identifying new routes for the movement of cars, he added.
The minister while reacting to the shortage of infrastructure for tourism purpose informed home stay project under which 1000 Home stays would also be sanctioned by March next.
‘The government is also coming up with new resorts in Umiam, Sohra and Mawkasiang’.
