NEW DELHI, Aug 5: NPP MPs and MLAs on Saturday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking measures to stop the violence erupting Manipur so that peace and normalcy may be restored in the Northeastern state.
A delegation of the party leaders appealed to the Centre to take immediate and impactful measures to contain persistent violence in the sensitive state. It also appealed to the government to provide adequate relief materials to ensure safety and livelihood for those who have been affected by the present crisis in Manipur.
The team also assured that the NPP will extend all possible help in restoring peace and harmony in Manipur and in providing support in terms of relief and rehabilitation materials for the welfare of the victims of the present crisis in Manipur.
It may be noted that the NPP was an alliance partner with BJP in the Manipur government earlier and presently in alliance with the party both in Centre and in Meghalaya as part of NDA.
The NPP held a meeting of all its MLAs from Manipur last month here and had sought Prime Minister’s immediate intervention in solving the serious crisis in the state. It had also impressed upon the Prime Minister to take measures to bring back normalcy and peace in Manipur. The team included Dr WR Kharlukhi, Shillong MP from Meghalaya, and M Rameshwar Singh and Sheikh Nurool Hassan, both NPP MLAs from Manipur.
The delegation presented a copy of the resolution taken under the leadership of NPP supremo and Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma, signed by the NPP MLAs from Manipur along with Deputy CM of Meghalaya Prestone Tynsong, and NPP general secretary James Sangma.
