SHILLONG, Aug 6: The KSU on Sunday said that they have made it amply clear to NEHU Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla that the NEP, if implemented, should be at a uniform level.
“We are not going to accept implementation of the NEP in hybrid mode as suggested by the VC,” KSU assistant education secretary, Riches Malngiang told The Shillong Times.
He said the student’s body had recently met the VC to highlight their point of view on the NEP.
“The issue is complex since there are varied opinions among the colleges. Some sections of colleges want to move ahead with the NEP while others are still undecided,” he said.
Malngiang admitted that there will be a lot of confusion if both the new and old systems are implemented at the same time.
Making it clear that colleges that are still implementing the old system cannot introduce the NEP in the second semester, he said, “It means that if the NEP is not implemented now, then the old system will have to continue for the present batch of UG students till they obtain their degrees.”
Admitting that the NEP will benefit the students, he added that the confusion is because the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association is insisting that any decision on the matter should be taken by the academic council.
The KSU leader also claimed that the principals of various colleges are at fault since they did not raise any objection during the meeting with the VC.
“If they could tell the state government that they are not ready to implement the NEP why did they not air their grievances before the VC,” he questioned.
