Shillong, August 13: The death toll from hurricane-driven wildfires on Hawaii’s Maui Island has tragically risen to 89, marking the deadliest wildfire event in modern US history in over a century.
As per IANS, Governor Josh Green initially reported 80 deaths on Saturday morning, highlighting the devastation surpassing even the infamous 2018 Camp Fire in California, which claimed 85 lives.
The historic town of Lahaina, once a thriving tourist destination and capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii, has been nearly obliterated by these deadly blazes. Despite ongoing efforts, authorities anticipate the toll to rise further.
