First ever Women’s College in Tura celebrates 2nd year in existence

Tura, Aug 14: The 2nd Foundation Day of the Miriam Russel Women’s College at A.B. Mission Compound in Tura was celebrated at its campus recently.

 Additional Deputy Commissioner and MCS, A V D Shira was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

 Speaking on the occasion, Shira reminisces her life as a student and Teacher of Christian Girls Higher Secondary School which is now upgraded to degree Arts College. While appreciating the efforts of the Missionaries to provide quality education for female students, she urged the present generation of Students and Teachers to give extra effort and full dedication to studies to achieve greater heights. She added that the tradition of the School should be maintained even at the college level.

Others who also spoke on the occasion, were Dr. C.B. Sangma, Rtd. Director of Health Services and present Chairperson of Tura Christian Hospital, Tura and Rev. Janang R. Sangma, General Secretary, Garo Baptist Convention.

 On the occasion, certificates were also distributed to the best Students in various competitions organized by the College.

 It may be recalled that Miriam Russel Women’s College, being the first Women College in Garo Hills region was inaugurated last year by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
