Assembly panel on women empowerment holds review meeting

Nongstoin, Aug 17: The status of women in various aspects was reviewed on Wednesday by the Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment of Women in a review meeting held at the conference hall, DC office here.

The committee headed by MLA Santa Merry Shylla, comprises of other members including MLAs Miani D Shira, Gabriel Wahlang, Adelbert Nongrum, Damanbait Lamare, Marthon Sangma and Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah.

The meeting was also attended by Garod LSN Dykes, DC West Khasi Hills, Bikram D. Marak, SP West Khasi Hills, and officials from various line departments.

In her address, the chairperson Santa Merry Shylla elaborated on the steps taken by the government to tackle crime against women and children and to speed up disposal of the pending cases and give justice to the victims.

She also informed that the committee will follow up and take the initiative to prevent the increase of crime against children by advising different schools, villages, and the police department to conduct field awareness programs to make people aware of the law.
