Shillong, Aug 18: The KHADC is making efforts to have a consensus voice of the community leaders from the five areas of differences before the visit of the regional committees as part of the second phase of inter-state boundary talks between Meghalaya and Assam.

The regional committees are expected to visit the six remaining areas of dispute, talk to the residents in the border areas, hold discussions with all stakeholders and look into all related aspects before submitting their reports to the two governments.

The intention of the council to have a meeting with the community leaders was to encourage people’s participation to voice their desire to be part of Meghalaya during the visits of the Regional Committees from both the states of Meghalaya and Assam.

The community leaders who attended the meeting convened by the KHADC are from Desh Domreah (Hima Mylliem), Nongwah Mawtamur (Hima Sohiong and Hima Jirang), Borduar (Hima Nongspung and Nongkhlaw), Langpih (Hima Nongmynsaw), and Block-II (Raid Nongtung under Hima Khyrim).

While speaking to reporters, Deputy CEM Pynshgnain N Syiem said that the council wants to ensure that the residents of these five disputed areas will express their desire before the regional committees that they want to be part of Meghalaya.

According to him, the community leaders of these five disputed areas during the meeting had expressed that they all wanted to be part of Meghalaya in view of their existing affiliation with Khasi Himas such as Hima Mylliem, Nongkhlaw, and Khyrim.
