Shillong, Aug 18: The KSU on Friday impressed upon the NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla to give preference to indigenous tribal of Meghalaya while filling up various vacant posts during the ongoing recruitment process in the university.

“We are happy since the VC assured us that preference would be given to the local indigenous tribal candidates,” KSU employment monitoring cell chairman, Reuben Najiar told reporters after meeting Prof Shukla.

He also mentioned that the university had recently advertised for recruitment to various vacant posts including of the associate professor and others.

Meanwhile, Najiar informed that they have also flagged the issue of the screening committee rejecting the application of many candidates without citing the grounds for the rejection of the same.

According to him, there are applicants whose applications fulfill the criteria of the UGC regulations on minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in the university and colleges and Measures for Maintaining the Standards in Higher Education, 2018.

“But their application was rejected without any valid reason. Upon queries by the applicants and on filing of their representation for the same, the University has failed to provide any clarification,” KSU employment monitoring cell chairman said.

He also pointed out that there are also applicants whose applications have been selected and they ought to appear before the Screening Committee but the same was never communicated to them.

According to him, there are also vacant statutory posts in the university such as for the post of Registrar, Finance Officer, etc., which have been lying vacant for a prolonged period of time and this has caused a lapse in the smooth functioning of the University.

Najiar said that they have impressed upon the VC that such pressing matters are to be urgently addressed and dwell upon as it is likely to affect the growth of the university and simultaneously the progress of the students as a whole.
