MAWKYRWAT, Aug 17: Days after a group of people from Hima Langrin met the KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member in-charge of Elaka, PN Syiem, seeking the ouster of Syiem of Hima Langrin, Nangtei Syiemiong, accusing him of dictatorial rule, another group of people from the Hima on Thursday clarified that the people who demanded the Syiem’s removal are allegedly eyeing appointment as acting chief, Myntris, Lyngdohs, and members in the Executive Committee of the Hima in order to take advantage of the Hima’s wealth.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, one Christopher Lyngdoh lambasted the group seeking ouster of the Syiem for claiming that the people of Hima Langrin were eager for the KHADC removing Syiemiong from his post as the Syiem of Hima Langrin.
The group, he added, had misled the general public by claiming that it was the citizens of the Hima who wanted to remove Syiemiong “but the fact of the matter is that there are only few of them because they saw the wealth of the Hima and the general public does not know anything.”
“The people who wanted to oust Nangtei Syiemiong are the ones who want to be appointed as Acting Syiem of Hima Langrin, Myntris, Lyngdohs or as members in the Executive Committee of the Hima so that they can get a share of the revenue of the Hima,” a pro-Syiemiong, Shanbor Thongni, said, as he dismissed the accusation that Nangtei Syiemiong had a dictatorial style of governance.
Another resident, John Justice Hahshah, has urged the KHADC to get into the details of the matter. “Besides the people who wanted to be elected as Syiem of Hima Langrin or appointed as Myntri, there are big shots from Maharam Syiemship or Nongstoin Syiemship who funded the move to oust Syiemiong to get more benefits. These people who are against Paiem Nangtei Syiemiong were the ones that supported him earlier, but because they did not get anything, now they are trying to dethrone him,” Hahshah alleged.
The leaders also urged upon the general public to beware of such alleged ploys.
