Umpling Dorbar celebrates I-Day

SHILLONG, Aug 17: Umpling Sports Club along with the Dorbar Shnong celebrated the 77th Independence Day at Mawarling ground in Umpling on Tuesday.
The chief guest of the event was Mawryngkneng MLA Heavingstone Kharpran besides guest Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor.
The programme witnessed the participation of seven schools including St Rose Secondary School, Umpling Presbyterian Secondary School, BSF Senior Secondary School, Hubert Memorial Higher Secondary School, Rose Bud Secondary School, Lawei Progressive School and Joyville School.
These schools also participated in the march past and cultural programme.
The programme started with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest followed by the singing of the national anthem.
On the day, Umpling Presbyterian School and Hubert Memorial Higher Secondary School were awarded the ‘Best Contingent for March Past’ in two categories, boys and girls respectively.
The programme concluded with a football match between Umpling Kicker’s Football Academy and Umpling Happy Feet Football Academy and the winner in this match was Umpling Kicker’s Football Academy.
The coordinators expressed their gratitude to all the participants, especially the BSF for creating tents and preparing first aid kit, and others for ensuring that the programme was successful.
President of the club, L Jyrwa, gave a welcome speech and the vote of thanks was given by the general secretary of the club, KJ Sanglyne.
