Tura, Aug 21: The GSU, East Zone Williamnagar on Monday called on Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to set up various facilities in East Garo Hills in view of the growing population in the district especially those belonging to the student community.

In its representation to the Chief Minister, the union among others sought the setting up of an MPSC Exam centre in the district.

“The need for setting up of the new MPSC Exam centre in the district has become imperative as the youth from the region face many challenges to reach the examination centre in the other parts of the State, because of constraints of affordability and uncertain conditions mostly while appearing for multiple tests. The setting up of the new examination centre in the region will not only provide social reform for the job aspirant youths but also help provide governance reformation in the State,” the union said.

Pointing out that the Williamnagar Polytechnic, which was inaugurated in 2018 is yet to be functional, the union urged the government to take necessary steps towards making it operational.

Other demands made by the union included the setting up of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and to fulfil the earlier demand for a High Court Bench in Garo Hills.
