From Our Correspondent MAWKYRWAT, Aug 21: Several welfare schemes sponsored by the government do not reach the needy simply due to the lack of awareness. Lamenting this, Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, Sanjib Banerjee, said that the government has implemented many programmes for the benefit of all citizens but people were not made aware of and the money which was allotted is reverted back to the centre at the end of the financial year. Banerjee said this after inaugurating a mega camp-cum-awareness programme on National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) schemes and other government welfare schemes in Ranikor, West Khasi Hills, on Saturday. Over 76 years of development and progress, yet there are certain things that we are still unable to eradicate such as poor health, education and the disparity that exist between the urban rich and the rural poor, Chief Justice Banerjee, who is also the Patron in-Chief of Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, said. He advised students to take advantage of such programme and requested teachers as well as students to disseminate what they learnt in cluster at the villages and localities,  particularly with regard to education and healthcare programmes so that maximum number people are made aware of it. On the other hand, Justice W Diengdoh, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, said that NALSA along with other legal services institutions undertakes various awareness activities in order to make people aware of their rights and about the role, activities and functioning of the legal services institutions. High Court Judge, Justice HS Thangkhiew stated that the government has introduced a number of schemes for the benefit of the people and such schemes can be avail through Social Welfare department, veterinary, Education, PMAY, MHIS, Agriculture etc, even as he urged them to take full advantage of the schemes.
