SHILLONG, Aug 22: The state government held a review meeting with all the legislators on Monday to ensure their understanding of schemes and plans executed by different government departments.
“MLAs are very resourceful individuals and very often they will be very important guides for a complete five-year plan on behalf of the government. So, we had a very fruitful interaction yesterday, wherein we took many decisions that will be pro-people,” Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said on Tuesday.
She also said that she has visited the entire state to understand the difficulties, challenges and expectations of legislators as far as the provisions of adequate health facilities are concerned, and providing enough opportunities to citizens in the agriculture sector.
“These are things that we need to do and I am so happy that wherever I went, there had been a keen response from the public,” Lyngdoh, also the Agriculture Minister, said.
She dismissed the perception that East Khasi Hills lacks primary health centres, saying that it has more PHCs than what is recommended by Indian standards.
Stating that the government is working to create Sub-Divisional Hospitals which are treasury care centres, Lyngdoh said the government wants to have a web of facilities.
She said the health department wants to make sure that people can avail health care facilities in their area.
Stating that the Health Centres will now be managed by communities, she said the government will utilise the systems which are inherently there.
Conjunctivitis epidemic
The minister reiterated that conjunctivitis is not a big concern for the state although schools, which are having their internal exams, have been asked to make necessary arrangements for children suffering from conjunctivitis or “pink eye” disease.
She said all health centres have been issued necessary instructions and that sufficient medical supplies have been provided to them.
