SHILLONG, Aug 23: In a commendable feat, a local girl, Ibanrapsbun Rynjah, has been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, an international scholarship funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Government of the UK, to pursue a Masters degree in the United Kingdom.
The Chevening Scholarship is a highly competitive scholarship which has an acceptance rate of only about 2% with over 65,000 applicants worldwide.
She is among the 44 scholars selected from India in the 2023-24 cohort and will be pursuing her Masters in Development Studies from the world’s No. 1 university for Development Studies — IDS, University of Sussex.
She will be starting her course in September 2023.
She is committed to return back to India and work on effective implementation of development projects and evidence-based policy solutions.
Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarships and fellowships programme. Funded by the FCDO and partner organisations, it offers individuals who show potential to inspire, inform, and influence positive change, the opportunity to gain a UK educational qualification.
Chevening Scholars study subjects in almost any field, and go on to implement their ideas for positive change in a range of sectors.
The Fellowships offer mid-senior level professionals the opportunity to undertake specialised short courses or research placements at UK universities and institutions.
After completing their period of study in the UK, scholars and fellows return home and join our global network of over 55,000 alumni.
