MAWKYRWAT, Aug 24: The absence of an approach road to Nolikata Border Haat – an international border haat between India and Bangladesh – at Nolikata near Ranikor, South West Khasi Hills, has reportedly resulted in huge loss to local traders who sell their agricultural produce and other materials at the market. They lament that only four-wheel drive trucks can be driven on the present road.
After receiving complaints from local vendors, the KSU Ranikor Circle on Wednesday inspected the Border Haat, a market which has proved to be a blessing to the local traders due to export and import of materials in the international market, and met the aggrieved traders and the general public.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection of the road as well as the market, president of KSU Ranikor Circle, Marconi Thongni, said that the Union had requested the government as well as the office of Hima Mawiang to immediately repair the kilometer-long road with stones and sands to ease the problems faced by the local traders and general public.
