RESUBELPARA, Aug 24: Clarifying on his son’s presence as a member of the District Selection Committee (DSC) of North Garo Hills (NGH), Mendipathar MLA, Marthon J Sangma stated that the demand for his son, Algore D Shira, was made not by him but by the people of his constituency in order to ensure transparency in job selection.
Algore’s appointment as a member has been questioned with the move being dubbed as “nepotism” for obvious reasons, though Marthon begged to differ.
The Mendipathar MLA asserted that instead of others calling the shots in job selection as well as corruption in the handing of government jobs, he would rather place his trust in his son to ensure people were not deprived of their rightful due, irrespective of their social standing or the money they offered.
“My son has been working for people of my constituency for quite some time and people trust his and mine judgment. I am an MLA for my third term and this would not have been possible if I did not work for the people.
“It was my people from my constituency that proposed the idea of my son being a member of the DSC to ensure corruption in job distribution was rooted out. If I can’t trust my own son to do the right thing then I have failed as a parent. I have full trust that he will do an unbiased job in ensuring those that deserve, get jobs and not those with money,” asserted Marthon.
The MLA added that people have been disillusioned for decades as the deserving never got their due.
He added that the people’s move to bring his son to the committee was to ensure history was not repeated.
