State athletes train under Elite Pathway Programme

SHILLONG, Aug 24: The Elite Pathway Programme was held on the 19th to 20th August 2023 in SAI NEHU was Organised by Meghalaya State Olympic Association, MSAO in Collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs , Government of Meghalaya where around 200 out of 14,500 athletes under 18 boys and girls in all the twelve districts of Meghalaya were being selected and recommended to come to the camp where they get tested and get training every alternate day in a week . Out of the 200 young athletes 9 of them have reached world class levels and they are now in a Super Elite Program.These young athletes have been trained under the guidance of two Olympians Ian Campbell and Robert Kabas in which their role is to look at some of the young athletes as potential international athletes or International weight lifters

Results of NEHU Inter- College Football Tourney

SHILLONG, Aug 24: The Day 4 results of the NEHU Inter -College Football tournament are as follows :Khadsawphra College, Mairang defeated Shangpung College, Shangpung by 3-1, Ri Bhoi Synod College, Umsning defeated Khrawsing Christian College, Mawngap by 3-0, Shillong College, Shillong defeated Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehrait by 3-0, Shillong Commerce College, Shillong defeated BBS College, Shillong by 5-0. 2nd Round of Matches to be played on the 25th of August 2023. St. Anthony’s College, Shillong v/s Ri-Bhoi College, Nongpoh, Sohra Govt. College, Sohra v/s Morningstar College, Shillong, Seng Khasi College, Shillong v/s Union Christian College, Umiam.

 

Laporte to join Al-Nassr
RIYADH, Aug 24: Spanish centre back Aymeric Laporte has left Manchester City to join Saudi side Al-Nassr, the two clubs announced on Thursday.Financial details were not disclosed but British media reported Al-Nassr paid a transfer fee of 27.5 million euros for the 29-year-old defender who had two years left on his City contract.Laporte is Al-Nassr’s sixth major foreign signing in the close season after Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Alex Telles, Seko Fofana and Otavio. The club signed Cristiano Ronaldo last season. ”I am proud to have represented Manchester City over the last six seasons. I will always be a City fan and I look forward to seeing you all again,” he said. (Agencies)

Saudi Arabia to host Next Gen ATP Finals through 2027
JEDDAH, Aug 24: Saudi Arabia will host the men’s tennis tour’s Next Gen ATP Finals in Jedda through 2027 under an agreement announced Thursday, the latest foray into sports by the kingdom.The end-of-season tournament for the ATP’s leading 21-and-under players will be held this year at the King Abdullah Sports City on an indoor hard court from November 28 to December 2.The event’s prize money will rise to USD2 million, a jump of more than 40% from the USD1.4 million handed out in 2022 when the last of five editions was held in Milan.It is the first time an official ATP event will be held in Saudi Arabia. It’s part of a recent trend involving various sports linked with the kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, which claims assets of about USD700 billion.The PGA Tour, European Tour and Saudi-funded LIV Golf announced a collaboration last month. Formula One put a race in Saudi Arabia in 2021, the same year the kingdom bought the English club Newcastle United.(PTI)
