Assam STF foils drug deal, 3 peddlers nabbed

Guwahati, August 28: In yet another successful operation in regard to foiling deals by drug peddlers in the state of late, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police along with Tinsukia police seized a huge consignment of heroin kept in soap boxes and apprehended three persons on Sunday, official sources informed on Monday.

“Acting on a source input in regard to covert transportation and deal of heroin, STF Assam and Tinsukia district police carried out an operation at Tinsukia on Sunday and foiled the drugs deal by apprehending the drug peddlers,” an official statement issued here said.

Accordingly, two vehicles – one Swift Dzire, bearing registration number AS-04-P-7010, and one Maruti Alto, bearing registration number AS-01-BV-3092, were intercepted by the STF and Tinsukia police teams at Gandoiguri Tiniali under Kakopathar police station in Tinsukia and apprehended three persons.

The apprehended persons have been identified as Shiplu Ahmed (27), Maruf Ahmed (28) and Abidul Hoque (24), all from Karimganj. They were caught while ferrying a huge consignment of heroin.

“About 700 grams of heroin in 57 soap cases, which were concealed in secret cabins of the vehicles, were recovered from their possession. The heroin was seized along with the two vehicles, cash amounting Rs 13, 950 and five mobile handsets.

The apprehended drug peddlers and the seized items were handed over to Tinsukia police by the STF team for initiating necessary legal action after registering a case under proper sections of law.

Reportedly, the market value of the seized drugs is suspected to be about Rs 1.40 crore.
